Homemade BBQ Chicken Pizza (Printable)

A smoky, savory pizza featuring BBQ sauce, shredded chicken, and two cheeses on golden crust.

# What You'll Need:

→ Dough

01 - 1 pound fresh pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
02 - 1 tablespoon olive oil
03 - Cornmeal or flour for dusting

→ Chicken

04 - 1 cup cooked chicken breast, shredded or diced
05 - 2 tablespoons BBQ sauce

→ Sauce

06 - 1/2 cup BBQ sauce (plus extra for drizzling)

→ Cheese

07 - 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
08 - 1/2 cup shredded smoked Gouda or cheddar cheese

→ Vegetables

09 - 1/2 small red onion, thinly sliced
10 - 1/2 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
11 - 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves, chopped (optional)

# Directions:

01 - Preheat oven to 475°F. If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven during preheating.
02 - On a lightly floured surface, roll or stretch pizza dough into a 12-inch round. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet or pizza peel dusted with cornmeal.
03 - Brush dough lightly with olive oil. Spread 1/2 cup BBQ sauce evenly over the base, leaving a small border for the crust.
04 - In a bowl, toss cooked chicken with 2 tablespoons BBQ sauce until evenly coated.
05 - Sprinkle half of mozzarella over BBQ sauce. Distribute BBQ chicken, red onion slices, and bell pepper evenly.
06 - Top with remaining mozzarella and smoked Gouda or cheddar cheese.
07 - Transfer pizza to hot oven or preheated pizza stone. Bake for 12–15 minutes until crust is golden and cheese is bubbling.
08 - Remove from oven and let cool for 2 minutes. Drizzle with extra BBQ sauce and sprinkle with fresh cilantro if desired. Slice and serve hot.

# Cooking Tips:

01 -
  • The combination of smoky and sweet flavors hits every craving in one bite
  • It comes together faster than delivery and tastes infinitely better
02 -
  • Dough at room temperature stretches much more easily and won't fight back as you try to shape it
  • Letting the pizza rest for those two minutes after baking prevents all that cheese from sliding off when you slice it
03 -
  • Use a pizza stone if you have one, it makes the restaurant-style crust achievable at home
  • Don't overload the BBQ sauce or the crust will get soggy in the center
